Arrests in UK may be linked to G20 chaos-making
Fears that this week’s G20 Summit in London could be a flash point of anti-capitalist violence were given some additional credibility as British police arrested five people under the British Terrorism Act. The arrests were made at a home in Plymouth, England, a town approximately 200 miles southwest of London.
The online edition of the Times of London reported on Monday that in addition to drug paraphernalia, weapons and political material of an ideological nature, the police also seized some number of “suspicious devices” that are undergoing forensic analysis.
Despite official police statements that would not link the arrests and materials to planned violence during the G20 Summit, the Times article states:
An unofficial police source said it was believed the suspects may have been involved in protests planned for the G20 summit in London this week. The source added: “Items have been seized which would come under the Explosives Act rather than bomb-making equipment.
“It would seem they were in possession of material which would not have the potential for causing injury so much as disruption.”
British law enforcement and domestic intelligence agencies are using all tools at their disposal to try and thwart known and unknown plans to cause chaos at the G20 Summit in London.
