Hundreds of blonde women march on Latvian capital

Austin_Powers_fembot_wrangl-large Maybe I missed this item on Hot Air’s headlines section; it’s the kind of news item that would ordinarily be right up Allahpundit’s alley.  The lighter-haired segment of the recession-ravaged country of Latvia banded together this weekend for what was billed as “Blonde Weekend” in the capital of Riga.

I will forgo all humor making clever use of the word stimulus for double entendre, but with the Baltic state’s economy predicted to be entering into a double-digit contraction, maybe a parade of eye candy isn’t such a bad idea.  According to one onlooker the public’s morale is sagging and needs a lift.  From the article in The Telegraph of London:

“Finally something different, something positive because I’m tired of hearing about the crisis,” said another, 70-year-old Ausma.

I’m not sure what the average Latvian woman looks like (I keep envisioning the “Pepperpots,” Monty Python’s drag characters) but if the photographs accompanying the Telegraph article are representative of the general population Riga’s Blonde Weekend should have red-blooded European men circling their 2010 calendars for a scheduled trip next May.
