Delegates of Western nations walk out of Ahmadinejad speech to UN conference
As reported Monday in the online edition of the London Times, twenty delegates to the United Nations walked out of a major conference held in Geneva, Switzerland when Iranian President Ahmadinejad told those in attendance that the state of Israel had been formed “on the pretext of Jewish suffering” in the wake of World War II. His words precipitated the exit of envoys from the United Kingdom, France, and Finland among others.
They joined delegates of nine Western countries already boycotting the conference, including envoys of the United States, Germany and Israel. Their refusal to attend the meetings stemmed from portions of the draft delcaration that seemed to mirror conclusions reached by a conference of Islamic nations several years ago that equated Zionism with racism.
